art maxims, etc.

A few years ago I wrote down seven points that, for lack of a better term, I labeled "maxims." During that particularly fruitful time very clear ideas would come to me while in the studio. I started to write them down. These maxims apply to art and the creative process and were written in a style reminiscent of old song-by-song liner notes, the best example being Bill Wither's classic "Still Bill." I've borrowed his text/subtext or formal explanation/informal explanation approach (you'll see what I mean). I'll post one at a time in this space.

#1: One's "style" should be a result rather than a goal. Beware of others' boxes.

A Start

I've now posted 16 photos of paintings, with many more to follow. Please share with friends and contact me if you're interested in a painting or just want to say something. As mood and inspiration dictate, I'll muse a bit as well - and probably share some written works, lyrics and other stuff. Enjoy, or at least be moved in some way.

Waxwing in the Dungeon

Coastal images, including the latest in the East Beach series, dominate most of my recent output. I'm concentrating on posting those, along with a few older paintings recently reshot. There are many more to come and almost everything is for sale.

Getting Started

I'm new to this, hitting the ground running with scissors - or something like that. I'll post some images of recent paintings really soon but for now I'm just seeing how it works. The main purpose of this blog will be to get my work out there and talk about it when that seems appropriate. I'll also probably rhapsodize a bit about nature sightings and experiences and even share some thoughts about art and other topics. I look forward to sharing the "art maxims" I jotted down a few years ago, among other things.
